About us…

This year, Eastside Educational Trust is running an outreach programme for International Pen’s Free the Word Festival.

Ten young writers aged between 15 and 25 have been invited to a series of free workshops at Eastside run by a professional journalist, poet and writer, exploring ideas of freedom of expression and censorship through reportage, interviews, poetry and fiction. They will get the chance to visit various organisations that deal with themes central to the festival (including the Guardian, Index on Censorship, the BBFC and the Oxford Union debating chamber), and will be interviewing some of the international writers at the festival itself, focusing in particular on the ‘50 years, 50 cases’ campaign and anthology. The workshops, visits and festival will all inform this creative blog, shared with other young writers and artists around the world.
